Gettysburg, PA

This is the 2nd time I've been able to spend a little time in Gettysburg, this time seeing a different part of this historic town.  Every time I visit here I am just more and more amazed.  This is a place I really would like to come back and visit when I have at least 3-5 days to spend here.  However, this was not the trip I'd be able to do that.  But definitely one day soon  There is just so much to see and experience here.  I did want to make sure that Kylar at least was able to visit here while we were in Pennsylvania.

He is very much into history and the military and I thought he would enjoy Gettysburg just like I do.  Hopefully I will be able to bring him back to visit the next time I come back.

This is Ava's 2nd time here as well, but the first time she was here she was only really this is her first real experience as well.  We even ate at the same restaurant we ate at when she was 1.  It was neat to be able to bring her back almost 6 years later.

It was quite rainy on this day we were here but we still got out of the car several times to get some pictures.  Kylar really found these statues and plaques quite interesting.

I even let Ava use my point and shoot little digital camera to take pictures of the things she thought were neat while visiting here.

She was fascinated by everything here.  I can only hope she enjoys history as much as I do.  I hope that is one thing we will hold in common as she gets older.

This is one of my favorite photos I took during this visit.  I know I have several more I could edit, but amazingly I didn't take nearly as many photos as I did the last time I visited.  I was more into watching Kylar and Ava experience Gettysburg.  I feel humbled and honored to not only walk on the very ground that many people lost their lives on for my freedom, but I feel very blessed at the sacrifices our military men and women, past, present and future make for me every day.  When you stand on the very soil where a war was fought, you cannot help but feel the strength of this country and what it truly means to be an American and you feel a sense of pride and honor in being an American.

Pennsylvania State Capitol Building...

at night and up close of the top.

I've photographed this particular building in 2008 from a distance as part of the Harrisburg skyline and in the day time, but on this trip I was hoping to see it up close and personal at night time.  I knew it would have to be quite impressive to see it being lit up.  I have to say I was not disappointed.  I do have skyline shots at night as well, but they are yet to be edited.  Soon hopefully.

Dear White Castle...

This was Ava's first experience at White Castle.  We stopped in at one in Indiana on the way to Pennsylvania, mostly because it was something I wanted.  Since we don't have any White Castle's near where we live or within like an hour even, this was a must stop for me.  White Castle recalls fond memories of my Grandpa, as well as, being a kid and when we would go to Six Flags as a family each summer, we always stopped at a White Castle in St. Louis to eat.  So I most definitely wanted Ava to experience this as well.

She actually ordered the little chicken sandwiches and fries, but she was willing to give my cheeseburger a try as well.  :)

Taking her first bite of a White Castle Cheeseburger....

Not quite sure what to think of it just yet...

Thinking about it...and ummmm...yeah...

she most definitely was not a fan of the cheeseburger.  Mostly because of the onions.  lol  Well at least she tried it.  :)  The little chicken sandwiches though were a huge hit with her.  I thought they were ok, but I'll stick with the cheeseburgers next time we hit another White Castle.

Home Sweet Home!

Finally home from vacation and I am exhausted. I think I could use another few days just to recover. Funny how that goes! We crammed a lot of stuff into just 5 days, not to mention driving to and from Pennsylvania. We did manage to spend some time in Gettysburg and also different state parks and seeing the Appalachian Trail. We even saw some sunbathers along the small strip of a beach in one of the State parks. I found this interesting simply for the fact that it is March and we are in the Northeast. :) Such crazy weather across the United States. I got some photos of the state capitol building at night as well. In 2008 when I was in Pennsylvania, I took photos of the Harrisburg skyline during the day and this trip, I was able to get photos at night and also up close of the capitol building. So cool. And being downtown Harrisburg, oh my a photographers dream for such cool buildings to use as backdrops when photographing people. I think I fell in love with that. I am pretty sure an east coast kind of girl lives inside of me. Hopefully over the next few days I will get some photos edited and put up from our trip. It was in interesting trip overall. It was definitely nice getting away, but so glad to be home, but not looking forward to getting everything unpacked and put away.

Home away from home. A hotel we stayed at near Harrisburg. Ava was relaxed watching Toy Story 3 and Kylar was chillin' on my laptop tuning out the rest of the world. lol

finally...finally...finally!!! I convinced Ava to finally let me sign her up for little league softball this year. I have been trying to get her to at least try this sport since she was in Pre-K and finally this year I convinced her. Well, her friends playing probably had more to do with it than I did, but I am so glad she is willing to at least try. :)

I wish I could get her to focus like this when it's something I need her to do or if it's time to do homework. :)

A Mom can always dream I guess!

Happy Birthday....

to the first boy I ever really truly gave my entire heart too! My first born nephew. Happy Birthday Kylar. It is hard to believe you are turning 14 today. 14 years ago my life was forever changed and in ways at the age of 20 I could have never imagined. From the moment I knew your Mom was going to have a baby, I fell head over heels in love with the idea of being an Aunt. Of being YOUR aunt. I have learned so much from having you in my life and I know there is even more to learn. You have even helped shaped me into being the Mom I was meant to be with Ava. You also made me realize there is almost nothing I wouldn't do for you. I am so proud of who you are as a person and I look forward to watching you grow into the man God wants you to be. I see so many amazing things in you and I am blessed every day to have you in my life. Happy Birthday Ky!
