Happy Birthday...

Ava's Birthday was a few weeks ago and I'm finally getting around to posting a blog about her special day. I still cannot wrap my mind around the fact I now have a 7 year old.  The years have been amazing with her, but passing all too quickly.  She is my world for sure.  Happy Birthday to the best gift I have ever received in my life.

We kicked off the morning opening presents from me.  Clothes (of course), a new CD, and other things, but the best gift of all....her Lego Friends Olivia house.  She has been wanting this forever.  I know I've definitely gotten my $70 worth out of this already.  She plays with it every day.  Usually a bit before school, and most definitely after school she comes home and plays with it.  She loves it. :)

At her party we were under water restrictions this year because of lack of rain.  So any water games we had planned were a washout.  And we had mostly water games planned.  Bleh. But just a few changes.  We took some baskets and decided to do a girly themed version of "The Grand Prize Game" for any one who was ever a fan of the Bozo Show growing up.

The kids loved it.  They kept getting back in line over and over and over and over again.  Glow stick bracelets and cool pencils were the prizes to be won.

The kids had a blast playing this game.  And my cousins daughter Kaylee was such a huge help with the games and activities.

Ava received lots and lots of presents from family and friends.  Even had some gift bags on the ground because they wouldn't all fit on the table.  What a blessed little girl with such giving and amazing friends and family.  Even though really the best gift of all is spending time with family and friends.

And does she ever love hanging out with her friends.  The swing set of all things was such a hit with the kids.  I am surprised this thing didn't collapse with all the kids playing on it. They were quite happy just playing on the swing set, giggling and talking.

Per Ava's request she wanted a tattoo stand for her birthday.  So I hit the party store and we loaded up on tattoos.  Ava was thrilled.  She loves tattoos and her friends loved them too.

Her friends in line waiting to get their tattoos.  They were thrilled to pick where they wanted them.  Arms, legs, hands, and feet.

Then it was time to bring out the lips and mustaches on a stick!  Oh my the kids love these.  The were a huge hit with all the kids.

Oh my what big lips you have Ava!  :)

Kissy. Kissy. Kissy. All around.

And a baby girl with a mustache. Why yes it's true.  She didn't seem to mind one bit.  :)

Time to dawn the crown and turn our attention to the birthday girl.  She gets embarrassed every single year when it's time to sing to her...but secretly I know she loves the attention too.  :)

These awesome cupcakes were made by my Aunt.  I found the idea on Pinterest and she definitely pulled it off.  The insides are tie-dyed too.  Seriously they were so cool.  Another huge hit for the party.

Then it was time for a little cupcake in the face for Ava.  She mentioned awhile back how she wished she could have a cupcake smashed on her face like when she was a baby and she smashed her face in her cake for her first birthday...her own doing.  Well we changed things up a bit this year and let two of her best friends do the honors.  :)

The kids thought this was so cool and really funny.  :)  Pretty sure I became a pretty cool Mom for letting this happen.  lol

Ava absolutely loved it!  Yeah I know, I rock as a Mom.  At least for today anyway.  :)

Yummy!  It looks like it was shoved up her nose, but she assured me it didn't get in her nose.  Well I'd say it looks pretty close!  :)

The Birthday Girl in all her smashed in the face with a cupcake glory.  It was in her eyebrows and eyelashes too.  Boy they got her good.  :)

Ava on her new bike she got from her Aunt.  What a blessed little girl she is.  She couldn't wait to get on that bike and take off.  Definitely a big hit with her.  :)

Time to open the rest of her presents!  Love how the kids are just gathered around and waiting on her to open them.  She has such good friends.  :)

What a dream light!  The kids loved this and even started singing the commercial.  Too cute.

And more presents.  She got a Justin Bieber poster from my sister.  Oh my!  She was in heaven.  And here is to me thinking I could get through a while longer before I'd have to put posters on her wall.  No such luck.  Thanks Sis.  lol

Several of the kids that were at the party posing with their lips and mustaches.  All in all an awesome party.  They got to leave with tattoos, their lips and mustaches on a stick, and a bag full of candy since the theme was sweet treats.  And we had tons of candy in bowls.  Though I made sure they went home with the candy as a parting gift.  I think they were plenty sugared up from the juice and cupcakes.  :)  For being in a drought and not being able to play the water games and activities we had planned, we still had a ton of fun and I'd say this party was a huge success.

Picture Day Means Photo Shoot for Mommy..

Yesterday Ava had her school photos at school.  That afternoon I was tossing around some ideas for photos I'd like to take a shot at.  So in the evening I decided we'd head out and do some pictures.  We were actually driving around out in the country trying to find some spots without too direct of sunlight for the time being and came across this awesome blue barn/building.  Perfection.  So we backed up, stopped the car and jumped out to explore a bit.

Decided to bring along a small decorative suitcase for this session.  Playing around with some props sounded like a good idea.  It was the perfect size to rest on.  She was quite a trooper because there were quite a few crickets and bugs out this evening.

This was one of her poses she did all on her own.  Right before she did this pose, she was talking about the clouds in the sky and telling me that, "Poppy makes them for us".  Talk about melt my heart.

Then she closed her eyes and was just taking in the moment.  I wonder if she was able to feel the love of her Poppy.  We both miss him so much.  Our days still do not feel quite the same without him here.

A little bit later she was being silly and jumping and running around.  I asked her how would she like to pose.  This is so her!  Kissy face and all.  Man I love this girl.  :)

A little bit later we traveled down some more roads and came across this road.  We parked and dragged out the suitcase again and she took off walking down the road.  Love the signs in the background too.  Then she plopped the suitcase down and took a seat.

Then of course holding the suitcase as if she is going on a journey.  Though with the start of 2nd grade we are definitely embarking on a whole new school year and a brand new journey.  :)

I love her smile in this one.  She is definitely a natural.  :)

What books are in this suitcase!  Oh my oh my!  The Cat in The Hat! There's no doubt about that.  I told her to look excited to be reading the book and this is the pose I got.  She looks like my Mom in this photo when my Mom was a little girl.  Never saw my Mom in Ava before and really hadn't until my sister pointed it out to me.  And I definitely see it.  :)

Our last stop was something I've wanted to do for quite some time.  Railroad track pictures.  By this time the sun was quite low in the sky so I didn't get all the photos I wanted, but these make for a good starting point and I definitely look forward to taking some more again soon of her on and near a set of railroad tracks.

This is my favorite photo from the railroad tracks.  Every day I am so amazed by this girl.  She is beautiful inside and out and honestly I cannot believe how blessed I am to have her as my daughter.  Thank you God for all the blessings I have in my life, and especially for this little girl right here!

It's School Picture Day...

It's that time of the year for school pictures.  Last night after several outfit changes, we both decided on an outfit.  She wanted a dress to wear for the big day and how could I refuse her request.

This morning she was full of poses.  I told her it isn't like her Spring school photos.  These are the straight on, look at the camera, and smile photos.  She was a bit disappointed.

I don't know why she'd be disappointed, it isn't like she is used to posing for pictures for me!?!?!  lol  Yeah right.

She was excited because I let her wear a hint of lip gloss.  More like tinted chapstick, but she was happy.  :)

School picture day always makes me nervous because I stress about how her hair is going to look, will it stay in place or be all crazy.  Will the photographer fix it so she looks nice.  I hope she isn't in mid-blink like she was in her kindergarten picture and she looks out of it.  I hope her smile isn't a frozen fake smile.  And then I thought this will probably be her last school picture with all her baby teeth still.  Yes, she is 7 and yes she still has all her baby teeth.  In my 2nd grade picture, I still had all my baby teeth too.  Kind of makes me sad to think next year we won't have this same smile in pictures.

A couple weeks ago I took this photo on my camera.  Finally getting around to editing it and uploading it to here.  If it's not on my iPhone it takes me awhile to get things uploaded it seems.  Anyway, I thought I would ask Ava some of her favorite things for the start of the school year.  It will be fun to see what her answers are at the end of the school year.  Not that I am rushing 2nd grade along or anything because I'm not, but watching her grow up is a lot of fun, even if it is bittersweet.

This is what happens when you don't have your iPhone in a case and you drop it on the concrete.  I usually have it in it's case. I've dropped it several times before on the ground (but it was in it's case).  Today not nearly as lucky.

Glad I am up for a renewal.  I am waiting to see what the iPhone 5 comes out at and how much different it will be from the iPhone 4s.

I've definitely gotten my $$$ worth out of this iPhone.  Will be glad to upgrade and have a better camera to work with.  For now though I am going to get this screen fixed from a friend's husband and make due for the next month.  Hurry up Apple and announce the latest phone and features so I can either just go on and get the iPhone 4s or else wait it out for the 5.  :)

Amazingly though the phone and everything still works.

Subway Art...

I am always on Pinterest and I always see Subway Art created for holidays, seasons, quotes, etc. and I love it.  Seriously I do.  So I thought I'd try my hand at creating something of my own.

Procrastination is what I am actually doing today.  I have things on my to-do list that are quite long, but then I decided I'd play around for awhile in Photoshop.  I wanted to create some "Subway Art" for Ava's room for awhile now, but just haven't had the time.  Granted this wasn't at the top of my to-do list, but it was on there, even if it was near the bottom of my list.  :)  I wanted to create a list of some of the positive characteristic traits that she has.  I also wanted something she could see every day and I think this is just one creative way to reinforce those traits to continue to help build her self-esteem as she gets older.

Not that you can't read for yourself the traits in the photo above, but here is a list of them below:
  • Independent
  • One of a Kind
  • Bright
  • Inspired
  • Charismatic
  • Forgiving
  • Sensitive
  • Happy
  • Energetic
  • Caring
  • Respectful
  • Ambitious
  • Self-Confident
  • Honorable
  • Enthusiastic
  • Courageous
  • Driven
  • Funny
  • Loving
  • Sincere
  • Dedicated
  • Beautiful Inside and Out
  • Brave
  • Strong
  • Creative

I think it turned out wonderfully.  Now all I have to do is get it printed and framed. Oh and then hung up on the wall in her bedroom.  I had to remove some from my list to fit it all nicely, but I think this describes so much of who she is.  Makes me one very proud Mom.  :)

My How She's Changed...

Yesterday I posted her first day of 2nd Grade photo.  So last night I decided to put together a photo of each first day of school for the last 4 years just to see how much she has changed.  The change where I see the most is from 1st grade to 2nd grade.  Oh my how she looks so much older.  It is crazy to see how much she has grown and how she is starting to lose that baby face.  Though she is now 7 and she still has all of her baby teeth and not even a loose one to even wiggle around just a little.  I was looking back at photos of me and when I was her age, I still had all my baby teeth too.  She definitely takes after me quite a bit.  lol Poor kid.  :)

Back To School...

Many parents are probably singing the song "The Most Wonderful Time of The Year"...but not me.  This is my least favorite time of the year.  Maybe it's because I only have one child and she did only just turn 7.  I might change my tune if I had more than one child and someday when she hits the teen years.  Maybe then I will be looking forward to when school goes back.

Today though, BTS makes me sad.  Granted I am glad she looks forward to going back and she has an amazing teacher again this year, so that does make it easier.  I just cannot believe I already have a 2nd grader.  The time passes quickly for sure.  I hope she has a wonderful first day of school.

Saw it on Pinterest...

I love Pinterest.  I do.  I could spend hours on there just looking at all the creative projects, recipes, funny quotes, decorating ideas, etc.  It's quite an addicting site.  Really. It is.

Awhile back, I saw this adorable idea (photo above) to take a plate from the dollar store, use some sharpie markers and let kids decorate them.  Then you bake them in the oven at 300 degrees for 30 minutes.  Seriously how cute and how fun would that be for kids to do.  Coloring on plates and for fun.  Why yes, I think so.  :)

So Ava had a sleepover with her friend Natalie last night, and I thought this would be fun for them to do.  I picked up a couple plates at the dollar store and I already had sharpie markers on hand.  The above plate is Ava's.  It is her and her BFF Natalie together.  The squiggly marks/puffs are clouds...and yes her clouds even touch the ground and clearly she is mimicking the color of grass we have now which is pretty yellowish/with just hints of a little green here and there.  lol

And this plate was decorated by Natalie.  She incorporated the BFF scene in her's too because afterall that is what BFF's do when they are 2nd graders.  I love how colorful her plate is and I love how she wrote their names at the bottom of the plate too.  So cute.  :)

This would be a fun project to do for birthday parties or for gifts for teachers, parents, grandparents, etc.  Might have to try this with bowls and coffee mugs too.  Oh and I was so wishing I'd picked up an extra plate for me to decorate.  I will have to hit the dollar store up again, because I just might find myself doing this once school goes back.  lol Always a kid at heart.
